Melvin Lewis Woodard, affectionately known as “Woody”, passed away in Alameda, California July 31, 2019. Born January 20, 1955 in Haley, Tennessee, Woody joined The Navy where he served for four years, including during The Vietnam War. Aboard the USS Enterprise in 1976, he was stationed in Alameda, California where he eventually became a permanent resident in 1984. He began his position with The Alameda Parks & Recs. Dept. in 1994 where he worked for thirty five years until the day of his passing. He was a long standing member of Calvary Alameda and The Alameda Fraternal Order of The Eagles. Woody loved to sing, took great pride in his family, and enjoyed helping others and serving in his community. He is survived by his mother Elsie Alberta Davidson, his siblings Larry Woodard, Francis Woodard, Jimmy Woodard, and Daniel Woodard, his children Nathan Woodard, Anneka Bass, Pecolia Tubb, Daniel Perreira, Gena Batres Montoya, Shasta Holder-Lane, and Trisha Lane, and his fourteen grandchildren. Woody is preceded in death by his father George Edward Woodard, his brother Clarence Woodard, and his wife Patricia Woodard. Friends and family are welcome to join us in celebrating his life at Calvary Alameda at 1516 Grand St. Alameda, Ca. on August 24, 2019 at 10:00 am.
