Mary Catherine Blackshere

Born on September 5, 1950 to Mary and Joseph Dermont in Bethesda, MD, Mary passed away on October 25, 2018. She is survived by her husband, George “Nick” Blackshere; daughter, Wendy Ovalle; son-in-law, Moses Ovalle; grandchildren, Isabel and Isaac Ovalle; mother, Mary Dermont; siblings, Vince Dermont, Stephanie Dermont, Susan Dermont, Margaret Gregory, Elizabeth Dermont, Virginia Hill and Simone Dermont. Mary was preceded in death by her father, Joseph R. Dermont and her brother, Joseph S. Dermont.

A long-time resident of Alameda, Mary was a graduate of St. Joseph Notre Dame class of ‘68. Mary was a fixture at the Alameda Free Library, Children’s Department and is known for her story times. She loved her family, was passionate about children’s books, enjoyed crafting, Halloween, and going to see live theater performances. Mary was kind, always saw the good in people and put others first. Mary will be dearly missed by many.

Family and friends are invited to honor Mary on Sunday, November 4th. The Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 pm with visitation to follow until 5:00 pm at Greer Family Mortuary and Cremation Services, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda.
