Gertrude M. Nava

Gertrude Munda Nava, age 95 passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021. She is survived by her only daughter, Susan Guinoo; her three grandchildren, Nelson, Mark, and Marjorie; her nine great-grandchildren, Justin, Jurell, Kyle, Jayden, Logan, Miles, Jazalyn, Audrey and Madison; and her sister Teresita Nava.

Gertrude was born on May 15, 1926 in Iriga, Camarines Sur, Philippines. She is the second eldest of nine siblings. She studied sewing at Deluxe Fashion School in Las Pinas. She worked as a seamstress at the Subic Bay Naval Base in Olongapo for 20 years. In her free time, she loved to sew, perm hair, and cook.  On May 1, 1990, she came to America to live with daughter and family. She helped raise both her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In the Philippines, she was part of the Gray Lady Group of St. Joseph Church. When she came to America, she became a member of St. Barnabas Church and joined the Apostleship of Prayer Group.

She was very friendly, kind, welcoming and generous. She was the type of person that never thought about herself and will give the clothes off her back or her last dollar away. She was a bit strict and always wanted everyone to be safe. If you came over, she made sure you never left on an empty stomach. Although she did not have the luxurious items in life, she was very rich at heart, and she will be dearly missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral services in honor of Ms. Gertrude Nava on Friday, June 4th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Alameda.  She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery.
