Tribute

Emil Firpo, 91 passed away at home on April 13th, 2019 from complications of congestive heart failure.

He was born in Oakland, CA on April 22, 1927 to parents Louis Firpo and Anna (Rettagliata) Firpo. He was the loving husband to Jeanie of 65 years, father to Cathie, Rich and Nancy and Nonno to his 3 grandchildren, Tony, Angie and Danny (Hannah).

Emil was known affectionately to many as “Firp” a strong, competitive and fun-loving guy. He made his home in Alameda for over 60 years and had an enormous circle of friends that he

cherished, some of which went back over 70 years to his Oakland days. He was loved by many who crossed his path, either at the Oakland Scavenger Co, now known as Waste Management where he was a partner for 35 years, at the Alameda Golf Complex where he enjoyed playing golf, at the Harbor Bay Club where he enjoyed working out and playing tennis and at the Alpicella Club, all of which he was a member. He also served in the U.S. Army as a World War II Vet serving overseas in Japan.

“Firp” loved to laugh with his friends, loved Alameda and its people, loved playing Frank Sinatra music and he especially loved his wife Jeanie’s Ravioli. He also loved reminiscing about his many cousins from California, New York and Italy.

Donations in Firp's memory may be sent to JDRF or St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in Mr. Firpo's honor on Saturday, May 18th at 11:00 AM at St. Philip Neri Church.  Reception will follow.
