Eliphus H. Burgess

Eliphus Hayes Burgess (lovingly known as “Burt” or “Burgie”), was a long-time resident of Alameda, California.  He passed away peacefully on June 15, 2020. 

Born on May 17, 1931 in Kingston Tennessee to parents Mattie Ellen Earley and Paul Eugene Burgess.  Raised on a farm near Rutherfordton, North Carolina where the family share cropped with grandfather Eliphus Elijah Burgess.

Proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1955 earning the good conduct ribbon for his service during the Korean War.  Graduated from San Francisco State University.  Married to Victoria J. Burgess from September 2, 1961 until her passing on September 22, 2010.  Employed 31 years with the State of California PUC Transportation Division.  President and owner of GA Olsen & Associates for 16 years. 

Loving father to Cathy Lynn Robin who passed away on May 3, 2016. Predeceased by his brother Carl Eugene Burgess.  Survived by his brother Paul Vinson Burgess (wife Sultan), wife Jing Ping Lee (married 2018), brother-in-law Jun Lee, grandchildren Dylan Bernard, Rebecca Smith (Mikel), Rachael Robin, great-grandchildren Chandler and Carter Smith, and many nieces and nephews in North Carolina, South Carolina, and California.

Burgie was a loving and caring man with a gentle soul and will be greatly missed.
